Introduction

In English novelist of 19 century Charlotte Bronte s representative work Jane Eyre，the author successfully traces the emotional and spiritual development of the heroine Jane Eyre．It describes her search for an identity as a woman supported by equal status and independent human dignity．Jane Eyre has a great influence upon the society at that time．For a long time，the image of Jane Eyre is favored by numerous readers very much．And Charlotte Bronte is famous for Jane Eyre．

At the time of Charlotte Brontes writing of Jane Eyre．in order to put down the worker"s movement British bourgeois government took some reform measures on surface，such as adopting the act of ten hour"s work for female labor． Bat the womens status in society at that time had not been improved rather than gaining the equal right．Though going through the Charter movement．whic

h had three climaxes and attracted millions of workers and labors to take part in to fight for equal right．It still wasn"t able to solve the equality problem between men and women．In Jane Eyre Charlotte describes the experience of an orphan gir1．Through this orphan girl‟s experience．It reflects the miserable condition of British women at that time． Also through this orphan girl"s seeking happy love life which finally become true，it reflects the demand of women of shaking off men„s oppress．Discrimination and striking for freedom and equality．In Britain where women has a extreme low status at that time．We cannot say it without a unique meaning．Through the analysis of these fighting activities of seeking equality．this article reveals her characteristic：rebellious and righteousness．At the same time reflects voice of ”women liberation”．

Through the whole story，we can divide Jane Eyre s experience into five segments l Gates head， Logwood．Thorn field．Moor house。and Fern dean．The plot is not complicated and fantastic in this story．Also the character of this kind is very common in the writer"s generation．But Charlotte composes Jane Eyre"s character，which is not of ordinary from universa1．Just as what she said to her two sisters at the time of composing Jane Eyre．”I"ll write a female protagonist．she is as plain and small as me，but she will give rise to reader"s interest as same as any female protagonist which you write．”Jane Eyre has a common appearance and owns for nothing．Why is she glorious? The reason for it is her outstanding and rebel personality． The author "writing is mainly about the depiction of Jane"s character．the exquisite description of her rich inner world．This kind of writing presents her lively personality to the readers． This article mainly appraise and analysis the character of rebelling for equality which runs through the beginning to the end．and make the readers know the

Jan Eyre first appears an orphan lodging with her aunt，who resents her and shamelessly favors her own children． Later，Jane is sent away to a charity school run by M r．pocklehursr， where through the harsh regime，she learns how to survive and eventually succeeds in becoming a teacher there herself．She advertises for a post as governess．and is appointed to care for Adele，the ward of the sardonic Edward Rochester at Thorn field Hal1．What attracts Rochester to Jane is not her Looks，as she is small and plain， but the honesty with which she speaks her mind，and her practical common sense，which enables her to save his life：above all， her wit and sensitivity，which help her cope with social and inter—— personal complexity． He proposes marriage，but she discovers at the altar that he already has a wife， Bertha。a lunatic woman who is kept in the attic at Thorn field． In her philosophy． Jane does not think it right to become Rochester s mistress and decides to leave Thorn field． At the critical moment of her life．she is rescued by the Rivers family，who coincidently turn out to cousin and tell Jane that she is the heiress to a decent sum of money sufficient to five her the economic security for life．St．John Rivers，who is planning to go to India as a missionary， asks her to marry him and follow him in his calling． On the point of accepting the offer， Jane hears a supernatural cry form Rochester． She rushes back to Thorn field only to find that the house has been burned down by Bertha，and Rochester himself has been maimed and blinded in an unsuccessful attempt to save his wife． Now Jane decides that it is time that she can marry him．

Jane Eyre s character of rebelling for equality runs through the novel from the beginning to the end．In unfair Gates head Jane rebels for equality I in Logwood which has vile environment further build her character of rebelling for equality；it is a distillation of her personality in Thorn- field；and in Moor house it reflects the pursuit of Jane Eyre．It is seeking equality that makes she resist destiny， the personality of rebellious makes her emotion life up and down．

That is called human dignity and sanctity， she can t endure that trample of human dignity and sanctity just because she is an orphan and lives on her aunt． So she has the movement，which is out of ordinary in other"s eyes． The revolt spirit which forms as a child makes her Learn to use severe and critical way to treat the behavior of the aunts l full of enmity to their ill treatment and humiliation and penetrating the despicable heart of the elder generation with keenness and insight which is out of her age．When there happen a quarrel between her and Mrs Reed． Mrs Reed thinks she could make Jane frightened by her status but wholly opposite．Jane Eyre is pave to say to her aunt：‟‟I am not deceitful：if 1 were，J shall say I love you；but I declare I do not love you；I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed ” People think you a good woman． but you are， hard — hearted．”Eli(P46)She tells pavery unconscionable act Mrs Reed has done to her． This nd of behavior makes this rich madam even afraid． Also Jane Eyre herself tastes the complicated joyous

Jane Eyre does not yield to this kind of difficult life， she sympathizes with the weak， hates the hypocrite who humiliates them especially Brocklehurst． She says to her good friend Helen Burn：”W hen we are struck at without a reason．we should strike back again very hard；I am sure we should so hard as to teach the person who struck us never to do it again„‟[1]„ It is the rebel independent spirit that makes her exist in difficult environment．The purpose of the writer depicting such a circumstance is giving prominence to Jane Eyre"s rebel spirit，which forms in her Aunts home by this circumstance．If in Gates head the object Jane Eyre"s resistance is the whole family of the Aunt． In Lowood the circumstance she fighting for is wider．She is mature than before． During this period， there are two persons who have a grate influence upon Jane；Miss Tem-pie and Helen Burns， Miss Temple is the incarnation of justice

and charity，using a profound and extensive heart Helen Burns comprehends absurdity of the world， short-coming and weak point of human nature by poad heart． Under their guidance， Jane Eyre gains extensive knowledge， perfects moral sentiment， gradually grows into a useful person and stay as a teacher eventually． Jane Eyre at this time is an adult． A more aware and sacred self—mind and independent human dignity demands her act ac-cording to her heart．After the living of Miss Temple she feels oppressive，” A real world is wide．” She is longing for freedom ， thirst for freedom． She tells to herself ” I want to go a lively place．” We can say the eight years in Lowood； Jane Eyre likes an indomitable growing tough grass in poor land． She is strong and durable and assiduous．at the same time she has self - dignity and self- respect．Also she knows herself clearly，giving the explicit aim of her action， hard working according to her mind． This makes Jane Eyre mature in mind， at the same time she makes a further development of her severe self- dignity and self- conscious．If it is said Jane Eyre only possess the nature of rebe1．previously now she possess morality and Justice．The rebel personality is lead by the Justice．

Machine without feeling?

But still it needs to depend on family status and wealth of the other side．But Jane Eyre has no money rather than family status，even a plain appearance．How to change the destiny and gaining happiness? derness of a remoty village，Jane Eyre loses consciousness because of cold and hunger．Fortunately，she is saved by preset John and his two sisters． also they take care of her． With their help。she becomes a teacher in primary school． Once again，she is hard working for gaining independence upon life． Similarly，when St．John proposes her in Moor house．she refuses． Because she knows cheaply，humiliated marriage is not love so does the caring of God．Though St．John is mighty a good person．as a clergyman he thinks himself as the messenger of God，making John the tool of missionary work． He makes an offer of marriage to Jane only because he thinks Jane Eyre is suitable for a missionary"s wife．He finds Jane Eyre docile firm ．and tenacious he needs this kind of assistant．If Jane Eyre obeys his demanding it is equals to givens up independent hum an dignity．1osing independent freedom status and right of her．
