　　2012 is a special year when ChinaBritain relations are stronger than ever as the two countries celebrate the 40th anniversary of full diplomatic relations. In June, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee’s ofcial celebrations created excitement around the world and renewed interest in the UK. At the end of July, London then opened the Olympic Games, carrying on the baton after the success of Beijing’s hosting in 2008.
　　July ended with several key events celebrating Sino-Britain relations in this special year. Alongside the world’s top athletes competing at the world’s most important sporting event, British and Chinese government and business leaders gathered in London to celebrate with a special China Business Day. The UK has long been recognised in China as a leading country for excellence in a vast range of industries. The last fve years have seen an increasing number of UK companies of all sizes and in virtually all sectors successfully exporting to and investing in China. The UK is also the European Union’s second largest investor in China, while China was the sixth biggest foreign investment source for the UK. Meanwhile, the UK was the second most popular destination for investment by Chinese companies. In addition, the UK and China have agreed to a target to double the value of bilateral trade to US$100 billion by 2015.
　　This mutual increase in trade and investment between China and the UK is not well known, which is why the British Business Awards was launched to showcase the variety of UK and Chinese companies who are actively working between the two countries. The Awards showcase organisations and individuals who have achieved outstanding results and a high level of commitment to China-UK relations in a variety of sectors. Submissions for the 2012 British Business Awards closed at the end of July, and in September, the winners will be shortlisted.
　　July 2012 has seen China-UK relations stepping into a new era. The London Olympic Games, the China Business Day and the British Business Awards have all contributed to making history between the two countries.
