If you go down to the woods tonight... you probably won"t believe your eyes. A deer hunter in the U.S. posted a video said to feature the creature on the Wildgame Innovations website - and the piercing white eyes aren"t the sort you would want to meet on a dark night. The hunter said he was lying in wait in the pitch black when a ghoulish spectre filled his sights。

Conspiracy theorists will no doubt note the similarity between the figure"s crouching pose and that used by Spider-Man, whose latest big-screen adventure has just begun shooting。

The original Yale Book of Quotations was published in 2006, and this is the fifth time he released the annual list of the top 10 quotes since then. This year, Shapiro noted that the top quotes stemmed from two of the biggest news stories of the year, the oil spill and the emergence of the tea party。

According to the Daily Mail on December 13, the Mona Lisa was at the center of a new mystery after art detectives took a fresh look at the masterpiece and noticed something in her eyes。

据英国《每日邮报》12月13日报道，文学家重新审视探索名作《蒙娜丽莎》，在"她"的眼里发现了新的东西，这使《蒙娜丽莎》陷入到新一轮的谜团之中。

The revelation could have come straight from the pages of Dan Brown"s best-seller The Da Vinci Code, in which the Mona Lisa is said to contain hidden clues about the Holy Grail。 探索可能是受丹?布朗畅销书《达?芬奇密码》的启示，书中说《蒙娜丽莎》画作中隐藏关于圣杯的线索。

Silvano Vinceti, president of Italy"s National Committee for Cultural Heritage, who spotted the symbols, said: "To the naked eye the symbols are not visible but with a magnifying glass they can clearly be seen. In the right eye appear to be the letters LV which could well stand for his name, Leonardo da Vinci, while in the left eye there are also symbols but they are

not as defined. It is very difficult to make them out clearly but they appear to be the letters CE, or it could be the letter B. In the arch of the pidge in the background the number 72 can be seen or it could be an L and the number 2."

Mr Vinceti is a member of a group which is seeking permission to exhume da Vinci"s remains from his tomb in France. They want to see if the artist"s skull is there so that they can try and recreate his face and establish if the Mona Lisa is in fact a twist on a self-portrait of the artist as some believe。

Thank you for your welcome. It is good to see so many distinguished representatives of the academic community, government officials and the private sector. Thank you for coming together in support of the United Nations Academic Impact. China, and the city of Shanghai, is a fitting place for us to join forces. Innovation and change are all around us。

感谢各位的热烈欢迎！很高兴能见到这么多来自学术界的人士、政府官员和私营部门的代表。感谢各位的光临，以及各位对"学术影响力研讨会"的支持。中国尤其是中国的上海是我们携手合作的理想地点。

At every turn, we see cutting edge ideas and technology „ born perhaps in a college laboratory or a lipary„ through the spark of a professor„the curiosity of a student„the dynamism of a classroom. Last year, I visited a state-of-the-art solar facility in Xi"an. I saw energy efficiency technologies that will help us to tackle climate change. But I saw something more: a mutually reinforcing partnership between global and national purpose, a melding of scholarship and entrepreneurship in the service of humankind。

我们的周围时刻发生着变化，产生着新发明。无论在校园实验室里，还是在大学图书馆中，教授们的思想火花，学生们的好奇善问，课堂的活力互动常常孕育出最前沿的理念与技术。去年，我去西安参观了中国最先进的太阳能设备。那里的节能技术将有利于我们更好地应对气候变化。但是，我也从中发现了更多的讯息：中国正与国际加强双方伙伴关系，将学术知识与企业家精神相融合，以更好地为人类服务。

Yesterday, I was honoured to take part in the closing of the Shanghai Expo. Before that I visited some of the remarkable pavilions. More than 70 million visitors witnessed an extraordinary display of ingenuity from China and the world. The Shanghai Expo may now be history, but we can carry on its spirit of openness, dialogue and exchange with the world. That is what draws us together. And that is what China itself has made a high priority. It plans to dramatically strengthen its education system at all levels。

昨天，我很荣幸地出席了上海世博会的闭幕式。在此之前，我访问了许多场馆，给我留下了深刻的印象。世博会开放期间，超过7000万的参观者通过场馆目睹了中国以及世界其他国家卓越的技艺和精巧的构思。上海世博会也许已经成为历史，但是我们可以继续发扬其开放的精神，对话的精神，加强与世界的交流。也正是这些精神，使我们相聚在一起。中国，也在积极地追求这些精神。中国计划全面完善地加强其教育体系。

The United Nations understands the enormous impact of scholarship, innovation and ideas. We are trying to harness that great power to build a better world„ A world where human ingenuity will make our homes, communities and consumption patterns socially and environmentally sustainable. A world where research receives the funding and support it needs to defeat disease, deprivation and despair. A world where the "unlearning" of intolerance will pidge barriers that still divide nations and peoples。

It will help serve as a clearing house to better match academic innovation with particular areas of work of the United Nations - neglected areas of research, countries in need of specific help, research that will help deliver concrete change on the ground, and the best ideas to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

海底现超级细菌 正吞噬泰坦尼克残骸

A newly discovered species of rust-eating bacteria is eating the wreck of the Titanic, researchers say. The micro-organisms, which have never been seen before, are helping decompose the famous ship at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, say the team. They isolated the

micro-organisms from a "rusticle" collected from the ship - lying 3.8km below the ocean surface- and have named their find Halomonas titanicae。

某研究组织宣称，闻名世界的泰坦尼克号在深海中的残骸遭到海底超级细菌的侵蚀，残骸恐N年后彻底消失。据悉，这种神秘的超级细菌(微生物)还是第一次被人类发现，虽然它的"真实身份"还需要研究人员去揭晓，然而这种微生物每天在分解和侵蚀在大西洋3.8公里深处的泰坦尼克号残骸的"举动"很是让人痛心。研究者给超级细菌起了一个学名"盐单胞菌属泰坦尼克号杀手"(H. titanicae )。

The researchers from Dalhousie University, Canada and the University of Sevilla, Spain, say the bacterium could pose a new microbial threat to the exterior of ships and underwater metal structures such as oil rigs. The researchers, who published their findings in the latest issue of the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, also tested the rusting ability of the bacteria。

来自加拿大以及西班牙大学的研究者称，这种超级细菌严重腐蚀沉船残骸的表面，同时也对钻油设备产生巨大威胁。科学家的这一重大发现已经在《国际微生物期刊》上发表，探索这一超级细菌的腐蚀能力已经正式列为研究课题。

"This could be useful in the disposal of old naval and merchant ships and oil rigs that have been cleaned of toxins and oil-based products and then sunk in the deep ocean." They believe that the findings have opened up further areas of research that could be applied elsewhere. "Finding answers to these questions will not only better our understanding of our oceans, but may also equip us to devise coatings that can prevent similar deterioration to our metal structures."
