Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the saying “listening is more important than talking”. You can cite examples to illustrate the importance of listening. You should write at least 120 words, no more than 180 words.
1、Listening is more important than talking. This proverb means that listening is something worthwhile to consider when we have communication with others.
People often focus on their speaking ability, believing that good speaking equals good communication. The ability to speak well is a necessary component to successful communication. The capability of listening is as important as speaking in that listening is the best respect for people around us. Listen attentively when others are speaking. It is the best and the most effective compliment that you can give them.
To conclude, not only will being a better listener make you be a more patient person but also improve your relationship with others. Good listeners are often some of the best speakers who can improve the quality of the communication. So listeners should interact with speakers, and respond promptly.
2、Post-holiday Syndrome Among Students
With the gloomy prospect of returning to school, many students could suffer from post holiday syndrome, which refers to a general feeling of depression before returning to campus life, which is caused by irregular lifestyles during the holiday.
Symptoms include fatigue, lack of appetite and concentration, irritability and a feeling of helplessness.
Various reasons can account for it. But most important of all, a large number of students tend to overindulge themselves in eating, merrymaking and playing around during the holidays, which makes it difficult to adjust to their routine study schedule and life pace on the campus.
My suggestions to deal with this syndrome are as follows. First, exercising and
sticking to a normal schedule over the holidays will make a difference and nip post-holiday syndrome in the bud. Besides, it pays to return a few days earlier before the semester starts. The early return seems to have kept the holiday blues at bay.
3、How to Keep Psychologically Healthy?
One in four people will experience some kind of mental problem in the course of a year. When you fail to manage these problems, they are likely to cause various mental illnesses.
The cause of mental health problems often vary a lot from one case to another. In today’s society, a good number of people are suffering from heavy pressure. Others lack
communication skills. In addition, a lot of people are ignorant of psychological knowledge about how to keep mentally fit.
There are a lot of ways to curb mental health problems and keep psychologically healthy. Firstly, find the real cause of your mental health problem and see whether you can do something about it. Secondly, learn to relax yourself and take exercises to release the pressure. Lastly, you may find it helpful to talk to your partner or friend about your problem, or seek support and advice form a psychological consultant
