运用文学欣赏的理论永遇乐落日熔金 [文学欣赏与英语教学的有机结合]

  在语文教学中有大量的中外名作欣赏,有古代的,有现代的,学生对母语掌握很好,所以能透彻理解文章,并分析著作的人物,情节,高潮,现实意义,在文学史上的地位等。在英语模块八中我们开始接触文学、艺术,让学生从学外语的角度来领略文学艺术的魅力。下面是我的一节文学欣赏课。
  1. 用单词配义的方式学习小说中的的重点单词
  词汇一直是学习外语的“拦路虎”,小说中生词尤其多,小说的文学隐含意义已经很多了,再加上生词多,读起来就更费力了。所以我把重点单词列出来,给出含义配对,让学生加强记忆。
  2. 切入主题
  文章标题是”Appreciating literature”, 我向学生提问:单词literature是什么意思?
  对literature的解释是“novels, plays, poems that people think have value”。然后给出四幅外国名著的封面,让学生说出英文名称,及大概内容。学生对中文都比较熟悉,但英文则不然,我再给出英文名称和作者,让学生进行配对,这样学生对名著和作者都一目了然。提到外国名著,我就顺便向学生提问中国古代四大名著及他们的英文翻译,以扩大学生的知识面。
  3. 切入本课
  我对学生说:“今天我们来欣赏狄更斯的名著《远大前程》。”
  第一步,让学生先略读,回答问题,做选择题。我设计的题目如下:
  1. What is classic literature?
  2. Who is Charles Dickens?
  3. Who is the main character in the novel Great Expectations?
  4. The writer wrote the passage mainly to .
  A. convince us to change our attitude(态度) to classics
  B. introduce Charles Dicken’s novels to us
  C. suggest that we should read more classics
  D. make a summary of Great Expectations
  然后,帮助学生分析文章的结构,进行段落划分,并指出每段大意是什么。
  第二步,分段阅读,回答问题,做选择题。
  Part 1
  1. Why don’t many people read the classics?
  2. Do we need to read the classics?
  3. According to the author, which of the following statements is TRUE about classics?
  A. There is a great difference between their language and the language used today.
  B. The stories they describe are boring.
  C. They are disconnected with life today.
  D. People have no difficulty reading them.
  4. Which of the following works is NOT a classic?
  A. Great Expectations. B. Clueless.
  C. Oliver Twist. D. Emma.
  Part 2
  1. When and where was Charles Dickens born?
  2. What books did he write?
  3. What is written on his gravestone (tomb)?
  以上练习完成后,给学生详细介绍狄更斯的生平,使学生了解狄更斯的其他著作。
  Part 3
  我先向学生提出问题: “What’re the main elements(要素) to consider when reading a novel?”
  回答完上面问题,我为学生分析这篇小说的背景,象征,人物,主题,情节,并让学生回答以下问题:
  1. What does the mist symbolize?
  2. What is the twist in the plot?
  3. Why is Pip embarrassed by his friend Joe?
  4. Why is Estella the dream girl of Pip?
  5. What does Pip learn by the end of the novel?
  最后,给学生一个任务: Can you think of some possible endings for the novel? 让学生分组讨论,设计出一个合情合理,又出人意料的结局。等他们讨论出结局后,我呈现给他们原著的结局,让学生清楚地了解这部小说。
  4. 课后感悟
  学生学中文小说时对里面隐晦的意思很难把握,再加上英文的障碍,学生对本小说理解起来会更难。这一节主要还是阅读课,弄清小说的大意,基本了解小说情节,至于狄更斯的写作手法,对现实的抨击,对文学的意义就很难用英文来分析了。这要求学生英语水平高,还要了解当时的社会现状,可以不作介绍。
