Because most books aren`t worth that much , liparies generally ask a $25 overdue fee for one book ,so that you won`t be able to borrow another book until you`ve paid the fine. But in fact some borrowers don`t come back to pay his fine.

But recently , one borrower decided to return what he should pay his high school lipary. The man checked out two lipary books he borrowed in 1958 from his high school, and forgot to return them. 51 years later, he was clearing out some of his things form his parents` house when he came across the two books, now dusty with age. So he sent the books back to his old school--along with a letter and a big overdue fee.

“I`ve sent the money to cover my fault,” the letter read. “At 0.02 cents per day it works out at $745.00 for 51 years,” the letter said. “I`ve sent along a few more dollars in case the rates changed.” He paid $1,000-enough to buy quite a few new books for the lipary.

It`s never too late to correct a mistake.

Yesterday a friend of mine sent me a story that warmed my heart.

Felicis Lettieri, a 72-year old woman from Italy, visited New York City with her family this holiday season. On Christmas Eve, she left her purse in a taxi. It held $21,000 to pay for her trip with other six family members. Police told her not to have the hope of getting that money back. In the troubled economy, whoever found that purse would take the money and run.

They were wrong. The taxi driver named Mukul Asaduzzaman drove about 50 miles to a Long Island address he`d found in the purse. No one was home, so he left his phone number and a note with these words : “Don`t worry Felicia…I`ll keep it safe .”

Mukul told the N.Y. Post newspaper, “When I was 5 years old , my mother told me , „Be honest , work hard and you will raise your station .‟ ” He refused the reward .

It seems to me his “station ” is a lot higher than he realizes.

All you need to do is staying open : open heart , open mind , open eyes.

1.Wher did the old woman lost her purse?

2.What did the old woman want to use the money to do?

3.Why did the police tell the old woman to give up the hope of getting the money back?

4.What did the taxi driver do with the purse?

5.What can we learn from the taxi driver?

由第二段第二句he borrowed in 1958 from his high school 可知借书时间是1958年。 So, he sent the books back可知51年后赔付,1958+51=2009.
