人教版新教材每单元的语言运用（Using Language）部分提供了围绕中心话题的听说读写的综合性练习。选修模块8 第3单元“Inventors and inventions”的语言运用部分中，Listening and speaking与Writing是独立的技能训练, 通过操练打电话和写求职信训练学生说和写的能力。在认真考虑学生的需要、兴趣和能力后，我决定对所提供的语言材料的内容、编排顺序、练习形式和教学方法等方面进行适当的取舍及调整，为学生提供学习英语知识、发展语言技能和综合运用语言的空间。
在教材原教学目的的基础上，我把教学目的设定为能力目标(Ability targets)：听，获取具体信息；说，打电话；读，能读招聘广告；写，会写求职信。知识目标(Knowledge targets)：打电话用语；求职用语。设计在各个教学环节中的能力训练，输入技能（听、说）先于输出技能（读、写）。
在教学策略设计方面，我首先在听说部分的“听关键词”一题（Exe1）增加三个中心词invention, founder, product.
随后增设选择题。
Listening comprehension：

把听细节题（Exe2）改编为听取信息题。
Listening for details：
设计填空形式全面复习打电话用语。
A. May / Could I speak to Tom, please? Hello！ Is Tom in？Is that Tom speaking？
B. Who’s that speaking？Is that 5868577？This is Tom （speaking）. Tom’s here. Tom speaking. Hold on / Hang on, please. Hold the line/phone please. Just a moment, please. Sorry, he/she isn’t here right now. You have the wrong number.
C. Can I take a message for you？Can I ring back later？I’ll ring him/her up again.
D. There’s a telephone call for you. You’re wanted on the telephone.

读写部分，增设阅读一则招聘广告。
确保学生了解招聘广告的大致形式，读懂广告的具体内容，并得出结论：The company is in need of a secretary.
自编写作习题。

How to write a letter of application
A. Opening:信息来源，求职心愿。
B. Body：姓名，年龄，专业；业余爱好，特长；工作态度，人际关系。注意认真阅读广告，明确招聘要求，并对照自己的条件，逐一加以介绍，防止遗漏要点。
C. Ending：盼望答复，表明感激。
课后作业设计为“Make a conversation on the phone, applying for the job”，输出技能再次得到训练，并检查学生是否能够灵活运用电话用语和求职用语。
通过筛选、改编和增设，整节课内容连贯，难度适中，形式多样，环环相扣。学生在英语学习和习得的过程中，不断地将所学的知识内化，同时不断将所学过的知识外显，通过感知、体验、实践、参与、交流和合作的活动方式，感受成功，产生语言习得进而获得自主的发展。
