汉语比较句的英译法:汉语新词英译 类词缀法

　　摘要：从英语形容词、副词在比较句中的应用出发，找出和汉语相对应的比较结构，探讨了三种汉语比较句的一般英译法。同时，也讨论了以上三种汉语比较句英译的特殊情况。　　关键词：汉语比较句；等比句；差比句；极比句

　　汉英两种语言中都存在着大量的比较句，探讨汉语比较句的英译法，对于进行汉英两种语言对比、熟练掌握英语的表达方式关系重大。汉语以形容词或副词作谓语的比较句，对事物的性质状态进行比较，可分等比、差比和极比三类。这与英语形容词副词原级、比较级和最高级在比较句中的应用有很多相似之处。我们可以根据汉语句子的某些特征，找出相对应的英语比较句进行翻译。
　　一、汉语等比句的翻译
　　汉语中表示等比的有“和（同、与、像、跟）……一样……”，“……如同……一般”等，与以上汉语结构相对应的英语表达方式有“…as…as”和“the same…as”等。例如：
　　1.对于生命来说，太阳的热与光同样重要。
　　The heat of the sun is as important to life as the light.
　　2.我们在最近三年里完成了过去需要十年才能完成的工作。
　　We have accomplished as much in the past three years as would have taken ten years in the past.
　　如果在形容词后面还有名词，而这个名词又是可数的单数名词，则应加不定冠词于名词之前、形容词之后。例如：
　　3.中国对旅游业的态度和世界上其他一些国家对旅游业的态度是一样的。
　　China’s attitude to tourism is the same as that of some other countries in the world.
　　4.他很高兴，因为他的分数同我的一样。
　　He is glad because his marks are the same as mine.
　　汉语的等比句除了以上两种结构外，还有“不比……多”和“不少于……”的结构。这是通过曲折的方式表达“相等”或“近似”的一种说法。英语中对应的表达法为“no more（less）+形容词、副词的比较级+than+被比对象”。例如：
　　5.迟到一分钟跟迟到半小时同样是不准时。
　　One minute too late is no more in time than half an hour（is）.
　　6.中国妇女和男子一样，正在参加祖国的各项社会主义建设工作。
　　China’s women，no less than men，are participating in all kinds of work in the socialist construction of their country.
　　如果是两个主语相比，谓语动词应与前一个保持一致关系。例如：
　　7.他用功不比你差。
　　He no less than you is（不是are）diligent. = He is no less diligent than you.
　　表示等比的还有以下一些方式：
　　一是“…be equal to + 被比对象”。例如：
　　8.二的二倍等于四。
　　Twice two is equal to four.
　　9.论力气他和我一样。
　　In strength he is equal to me.
　　二是“…be worth + 被比对象”。例如：
　　10.一寸光阴一寸金。
　　An inch of time is worth an inch of gold.
　　11.一句赞扬抵得上十句责骂。
　　An ounce of praise is worth a pound of scolding.
　　三是利用其他词汇表示。例如：
　　12.三早当一工。
　　Three early mornings will make a day.
　　13.我班只有他在英语方面的知识能和你比。
　　Only he in our class can cope with you in knowledge of English.
　　二、汉语差比句的翻译
　　表示两个人或事物之间有差别的句子就叫做差比句。它包括两个方面：一是优等比较（Comparison of Superiority），即“甲胜于乙”；二是次等比较或称劣等比较（Comparison of Inferiority），即“甲不及乙”。汉语表示差比的句子通常是“比……更加……”，“……比……多”或“……不如……”等。英语差比句与之对应的是“…more…than…”或“…less…than…”，“not so …as”等。例如：
　　14.合金的性能比起纯金属要好得多。
　　The properties of alloys are much better than those of pure metals.
　　15.声音的速度比光速小得多。
　　The speed of sound is much less than that of light.
　　16.普通非金属与普通金属比起来，延展性差，强度低。
　　Common nonmetals tend to be less ductile and weaker than the common metals.
